SIMPLICITY THE CLOWN . STORY TIME . A FESTIVAL OF LITERACY COME CELEBRATE LITERACY AND ENCOURAGE A LOVE OF READING WITH OTHER FAMILIES IN ATTENDANCE. Dear Friends, Happy New Year! Hard to believe that another year has flown by! But what a lot of exciting things are coming our way in 2008. Be sure to mark your calendars for our April Literacy Festival—it promises to be exciting, educational, and best of all, tailor made to reach children and families to promote a life-long love of reading! Stay tuned to our website, (www.granitestatecouncil.org), for other literacy-themed events being held around the state by our Local Councils. For example, Pond & Peak Council will be sponsoring an evening with Allen Wolf on March 12th at Newfound High School. (Watch the website for details.) Speaking of local councils, I want to be sure to offer hearty congratulations to the Seacoast Council (40 years) and the North Country Council (15 years) for achieving milestone anniversaries with the International Reading Association in the fall of 2007. I would also like to congratulate one of our Executive Board members, Donna Ciocca for the time and hard work she put into the presidential primary campaign for Hillary Clinton. No matter which candidate that you decide to vote for in this very important election year, getting our voices out to any and all of the candidates about our concerns over NCLB and literacy education is the responsibility of us all. So, a big thank you to Donna and the rest of you out there. (If you are like me, you probably breathed a sigh of relief on January 9th, as your phone quit ringing off the hook for the first time in 6 months!) Don’t forget to take time out for yourselves this beautiful snowy winter and curl up with a good book!
